Seller's Description

h3>Original British 17 inch x 11 inch Trade Advertisement from To-Day’s Cinema for the 1948 Anthony Kimmins Historical Adventure BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE starring David Niven, Margaret Leighton, Jack Hawkins, Finlay Currie, Judy Campbell, Morland Graham, Elwyn Brook-Jones, John Laurie, Charles Goldner, Henry Oscar, Martin Miller, Franklin Dyall, Herbert Lomas, Ronald Adam, John Longden and James Hayter.

In the Jacobite Rising of 1745, the Young Pretender Bonnie Prince Charlie leads an insurrection to overthrow the Protestant House of Hanover and restore his family, the Catholic branch of the House of Stuart, to the British throne.

Advert art by Charles Mozley
Born in Sheffield on 29th May 1915, Mozley trained at the Sheffield School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art from 1933 to 1937. He taught anatomy, life drawing and lithography at Camberwell School of Art from 1938 to 1939. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in military intelligence during the war, ‘involved in work on camouflage’. After the war he went freelance, producing book illustrations, film and theatre posters, book jackets and posters for Shell. He produced posters for British European Airlines Corporation through the agency Colman, Prents & Varley; a poster for ‘150 Years of Lithography’ for the Victoria and Albert Museum; and a mural for the festival of Britain. He produced some fine posters for Alexander Korda’s An Ideal Husband from Tony Wysard’s original rough.

This tartan-drenched historical drama about the Jacobite Rebellion charts one of the great escapes: Bonnie Prince Charlie's five-month flight from the English in 1746. The escape followed the Stuarts' vain attempts to regain the throne from the Hanovers which ended in a crushing defeat at Culloden.

The Advertisement is in very good condition with one vertical centre fold and two staple holes along it. There are a few edge nicks.
