Original 1872 6 1/2 inch x 9 7/8 inch coloured print titled AVENA STRIGOSA. BLACK OAT.
Avena strigosa (also called lopsided oat, bristle oat or black oat) is a species of grass native to Europe. It has edible seeds and is often cultivated as animal feed in southern Brazil. It is sometimes reported as a weed.
Drawn by John Edward Sowerby (1825 - 1870). A British botanical illustrator and publisher born in Lambeth, London.
