The middle bridge 'Mittlere Brücke' crossing the Rhine.
Basel (Basle) is a city in northwestern Switzerland on the river Rhine. Located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet, Basel also has suburbs in France and Germany.
Engraved by Edward J. Whymper (1840 - 1911). Occasional draughtsman and engraver on wood, illustrator, landscape watercolourist and alpinist.
From ‘Swiss Pictures’, by Reverend Samuel Manning and published in circa 1880 by William Clowes and Sons for The Religious Tract Society.
