Seller's Description

Original 10 3/4 inch x 8 1/4 inch Wood Engraved Cartoon page titled AS OTHERS SEE US - AND THE ONE WHO STARTED IT from Punch, September 12, 1934.

The cartoon is by William James Affleck Shepherd (1866 - 1946). An English illustrator and cartoonist, known mainly for anthropomorphic animal drawings. He rarely used his first forename. In 1893 he joined the staff of Punch. He also worked for The Strand magazine, the Illustrated London News and other periodicals.

Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term "cartoon" in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.

The page is in very good condition with printed text and another cartoon on the reverse
