Original 1885 8 5/8 inch x 6 3/4 inch engraving titled ANDREW LANG.
Portrait of Andrew Lang, three-quarter length sitting in chair to right, classical sculptures in the right background.
Andrew Lang FBA (1844 – 1912) was a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him.
Engraved by Moritz Klinkicht (1845 - fl.1893). Wood-engraver, draughtsman and illustrator. Born in Germany; 1859-62, studied in Dresden with August Gaber; thereafter worked in Stuttgart and Paris before settling in London in 1868-83. Directed the London wood-engraving studio of the publisher Cassell, Petter and Galpin, and set up his own office where he engraved cuts for the 'Illustrated London News'; 1883, moved to Freiburg but continued to work for English publishers.
Painted by William Blake Richmond (1842 - 1921). An English portrait painter, sculptor and a designer of stained glass and mosaic. He is best known for his portrait work and decorative mosaics in St Paul's Cathedral in London.
