Seller's Description
Original 10 3/4 inch x 8 1/4 inch Wood Engraved Cartoon page titled AND WHAT A MARVELLOUS LABURNUM YOU’VE GOT NEXT-DOOR from Punch, June 27, 1934.
The cartoon is by Fougasse (1887 - 1965). Cyril Kenneth Bird CBE, known by the pen name Fougasse, was a British cartoonist. He was perhaps best known for his work in Punch magazine (of which he served as editor from 1949 to 1953) and his World War II warning propaganda posters; "Careless talk costs lives" was one of the most popular. He also designed many posters for the London Underground.
Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term "cartoon" in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.
The page is in very good condition. Printed text and a smaller cartoon on the reverse.
