Seller's Description
Original 1885 7 3/8 inch x 4 7/8 inch engraving titled AMORINI.
Engraved by Paul Jonnard (1840 - 1902). Wood-engraver, student of Auguste Trichon. Known for his work after Gustave Doré. Worked for British and French magazines, including the 'Magazine of Art'
Painted by Correggio (1489 - 1534). Antonio Allegri da Correggio, usually known as just Correggio, was the foremost painter of the Parma school of the High Italian Renaissance, who was responsible for some of the most vigorous and sensuous works of the 16th century. In his use of dynamic composition, illusionistic perspective and dramatic foreshortening, Correggio prefigured the Baroque art of the 17th century and the Rococo art of the 18th century. He is considered a master of chiaroscuro.

From ‘The Magazine of Art’ Vol. VIII. 1885. Published by Cassell & Company Ltd. - London, Paris, New York & Melbourne.
