Original 15 3/4 inch x 11 inch Engraving titled ALGERIAN SPAHIS IN PARIS - FROM A SKETCH BY J.A. BEAUCE.
Engraving by Mason Jackson (1819-1903) An engraver and illustrator and pupil of his brother John Jackson (1801-1848). He became Art Editor of the Illustrated London News in 1860 and Editor in 1875. He was the first historian of illustrated journalism.
Drawn by Jean-Adolphe Beaucé (1818 - 1875). A French battle-scene painter. Born in Paris, he followed the French army on campaign from 1843 onwards in North Africa, the Middle East and Mexico. He also painted portraits of military figures and produced illustrations for several works by Alexandre Dumas pere such as The Three Musketeers, The Viscount of Bragelone and The Lady of Monsoreau.
