" RCA VIDEODISC CED :: Capacitance Electronic Disc System Running Time: Approx. 1 hour 49 minutes © 1960 Shamley Productions, Inc. Manufactured & Distributed © 1983 RCA Corporation A Black and White Presentation Starring: Anthony Perkins Vera Miles John Gavin "Accept no substitutes: there is only one Psycho. Alfred Hitchcock's famous shocker caused a furor when it first appeared in 1960 - and has inspired a rash of imitations in recent years, but nothing has ever come close to the power of the original. Tony Perkins stars as Norman Bates, the strange young motel proprietor, whose mother watches over him from an eerie Victorian house on a hill. Janet Leigh is Marion Crane, a Phoenix bank employee turned thief, who stops for the night at the Bates Motel when she gets lost on the highway while en route to meet her lover ( John Gavin). Marion's sister (Vera Miles) and a detective (Martin Balsam) have cause to inspect the motel - and the house on the hill - as a result of what transpires there. To tell any more would only spoil the surprise for those who have never experienced Psycho . Its bravura highlights - especially the shower scene and the scenes in the house - are truly deserving of the word "classic". The tingling music of Bernard Herrmann, which has been copied many times, haunts the viewer and enhances the shock of each brutal sequence. Alfred Hitchcock knew exactly how to scare the skin off an audience, and Psycho is one of his all-time best fright films, packing an emotional wallop that's never forgotten. One would expect no less from the screen's favorite Master of Suspense. - Leonard Maltin " Used videodisc.
