Original Victorian 9 5/8 inch x 13 inch Etching and Engraving of A SYRIAN MAID
A woman three-quarter length to front, looking down at a bunch of flowers held in her left hand, wearing an turban, embroidered dress with jewel at neck, shawl and striped skirts with sash, a string of pearls wrapped around her right wrist.
Engraving by Samuel Sangster (1805 - 1872). Line-engraver. He was a pupil of William Finden.
From a painting by Henry William Pickersgill, R.A. (1782 - 1875). Henry William Pickersgill RA was an English painter specialising in portraits. He was a Royal Academician for almost fifty years, and painted many of the most notable figures of his time.
Published by McQueen & Co.. Copperplate printing and publishing family firm, founded by William Benjamin McQueen.
Lettered below image with title, "From the picture in the Vernon gallery", production detail: "H. W. Pickersgill R.A. painter", "S. Sangster engraver", "Printed by McQueen" and publication line: "London, published for the proprietors", the size of the picture at left.
