Seller's Description

Silas Marner by George Eliot  -- 1985 - Worlds Best Reading Readers Digest

I will be listing a few of these Classic books from The Readers Digest - The World's Best Reading Series.  I got these books, one at a time when they were issued.  Since I was working at the time, the books were placed on a shelf in the glass enclosed bookcase.  Needless to say, for the most part, they just sat forgotten and not read at the time and the left for a rainy day to read, that never happened.  Now they need to find new homes and someone who can take the time to sit down and enjoy them.

Book is in excellent condition, has been on a book shelf entire time I have owned. See pictures, the book looks like it came right out of the shipping box.

This edition was issued in 1985 and was illustrated by David Frampton.   Afterword by E. S. Dallas.

George Eliot's tale of a solitary miser gradually redeemed by the joy of fatherhood.

Wrongly accused of theft and exiled from a religious community many years before, the embittered weaver Silas Marner lives alone in Raveloe, living only for work and his precious hoard of money. But when his money is stolen and an orphaned child finds her way into his house, Silas is given the chance to transform his life. His fate, and that of Eppie, the little girl he adopts, is entwined with Godfrey Cass, son of the village Squire, who, like Silas, is trapped by his past.

Silas Marner, George Eliot's favourite of her novels, combines humour, rich symbolism and pointed social criticism to create an unsentimental but affectionate portrait of rural life.

208 pages of intrigue to keep you reading page after page.

These books never came with dust jackets.  The size of the book is 6 1/4 inches by 9 1/4 inches and 1 inch thick.

No marks, no missing pages, no turned corners, no stamps, no nothing to mar the beauty of this book.  You will be more than pleased with the book.

Please e-mail me with any question.
