Synopsis
The 8th book by Kathy Reichs starts very much like the others, a dead body and a case that pulls Brennan into a deeper mystery that puts her in danger. Although Reichs has always been open about her plots starting off from her own case files, this time she utilizes a real life first century mystery that was investigated by her colleague Tabor (as is detailed at the end of the book). It is this real life basis that makes the plot so compelling, the possible ramifications of the evidence as it unfolds. All based on a skeleton that was found in a dig in 1963 in Israel that went unrecorded and was spirited away by someone to be hidden and a family burial tomb that was discovered in 2000. The 1963 skeleton surfaces in Montreal and Tempe and her boyfriend, the handsome Detective Andrew Ryan, have to work out how the skeleton is related to the murder they're investigating. Who was he, could he really be who he's rumoured to be or is he merely a red herring? Why wasn't his find reported?
