That approach can be exhilarating, but if you forced them to unplug and perform an acoustic set, they would feel like the emperor who just lost his clothes. Other alterna-metallers make melody a high priority; they like to be melodic and intricate as well as loud, forceful, and aggressive. Into Another falls into that category. No one will describe Seemless as easy listening -- at least not with a straight face -- and no one will mistake this CD for an album of gentle, caressing bossa novas by Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto. But, at the same time, Seemless is never about bombast for its own sake. Even though Seemless rocks aggressively, the album never fails to be melodic. The melodies are amplified but, even without all the amplification, the songs would be worthwhile. If Into Another had to unplug and perform an acoustic set in a small coffeehouse, the songs on Seemless would hold up well. Arguably, a band like Into Another is to alternative metal what Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, UFO, and Candlemass were to 1980s fantasy metal -- all of those headbangers could get in your face and crank up the amps, but none of them were without a strong sense of melody. The same goes for Into Another, whose Seemless falls short of essential but is still solid and pleasing. ~ Alex Henderson
