It acts by inhibiting Prostaglandin (PGs) synthesis and their release at the site of injury. Prostaglandins cause tenderness and amplify the action of other algesics. Ibuprofen inhibits cyclo-oxygenase enzyme and antagonizes prostaglandin actions. It also inhibits platelet aggregation and prolongs bleeding time.
