Seller's Description
This is a lot of two covers marking the 9th Commonwealth Games, held in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, in summer 1970. The items are :
- a cover sent registered from Blantyre, Malawi, on 3 June 1970 - it appears to have been created using a basic cover produced in Edinburgh (I assume) with a sheet of the Malawi stamps marking the event attached on top - it is sealed with no contents, and is 190mm x 127mm. The connection with Scotland is of course that Blantyre in Malawi (then Nyasaland) was founded by Church of Scotland missionaries, and Blantyre in Scotland is the birthplace of the famous explorer David Livingstone
- a cover sent from a stamp shop in Ilfracombe, Dorset, on 15 July 1970 (the day before the opening), using an envelope with the arms of the City of Edinburgh - it is sealed with no contents, and is 165mm x 112mm
Both covers are in fair condition, with minor wear.
