Seller's Description
St. Helena had been occupied by many nations and eventually became a possession of The British Crown and a charter was issued to the East Indiana Company in 1673. and this coin commemorates the Tercentenary of this charter. The island as a place of exile for Napoleon, several Zulu Chiefs, and an ex-Sultan of Zanzibar. It was minted in two versions 100,000 in cupro-nickle and 10,000 in Sterling (.925) silver. and is approx 1 ounce.
There are some faint rust stains on the fromt of the certificate that came from the inside top of the case.
Mintages were reduced during 1979 and 1981 when the Hunt brothers tried to corner the silver market, driving silver to $50.00 an ounce, and many of these were melted. More may have been melted in the recent silver price jump.
This is a must for any Silver Crown collector.
