Seller's Description
You are bidding on a marvelous book. It is a hard cover issue of THE JOY OF WORDS. It has a 1960 copyright and it was published by J. G. Ferguson of Chicago. This book measures 6" x 9" and consists of 224 pages. This is not simply literature history or philosophical poems. It is instead a classic group of writings that express beauty, humor, history, wisdom and inspiration. These selections are designed to be read and re-read. They are classics and should be appreciated by everyone. Some of the authors featured include:
Thomas Jefferson, Robert Browning, Frederick Loomis, Confucius, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Martin F. Tupper, Walt Whitman, Jenkin Lloyd Jones, John Foster Dulles, Emily Dickinson, John Locke, William James, Rabbi Ben Ezra, John Ruskin, Plutarch, Victor Hugo, Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain and many, many others.
The book is divided into sub-sections including:
Wisdom, Humor, History, Beauty, Business, etc. Within these arenas are printed some of the best pre-revisionists thoughts and ideas. Wonderful book in excellent condition, though a brittle spine shows a hairline split and a chip off the lower edge. Previous owners name on the inner flyleaf is the only marking I can see. Beautifully bound in a red leatherette cover with gold imprints.
