"Douglas Dam was built by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) in the world-record time of 12 months and 19 days from start to closure. Located on the French Broad River in East Tennessee, Douglas Dam is 161 feet high, 1682 feet long, and impounds a lake containing 1,330,000 acre-feet of water. The lake is 43 miles long, and its surface area is 31,600 acres. It was built under emergency authorization to supply power for war industry, and in normal times will be operated in the multi-purpose interests of flood control, navigation improvement and power production."
