1914 cheque Capital & Counties Bank - signature cut away + letter

A cheque dated 16th July 1914 drawn on The Capital & Counties Bank, 38a Victoria Street, SW.  It is made out to Alexander M. Chance.  The signature has been cut away.  There is a two page letter signed by Alexander, International Place, Mont=Dore=Les Bains dated 19th July 1914 in which he is sending the cheque "I have cut off the signature in order to render it useless".
