Seller's Description
Here's a C.T. Photochrom published by Leet Brothers, card #R-22571. Glossy, clean, and sharp except for traces of corner wear. No tears and not mailed. Superb detail! The back reads:
"Washington's Tomb is a severely plain red brick structure with a marble tablet above an arched iron gateway inscribed, 'Within this enclosure rest the remains of General George Washington.' Just inside the door on the right is the marble sarcophagus of George Washington while that of Martha his wife is on the left. Both are hewn from solid blocks of marble. In the rear of the vault repose the bodies of forty members of the Washington and Custis families. Many visiting foreigners of distinction have planted memorial trees among whom were Dom Pedro of Brazil, the Prince of Wales and Prince Henry of Prussia."
