Seller's Description
France 1863 - 1869 Napoleon III head with laurel wreath 4 cents grey stamp with town " 86 " postmark cancel almost complete, dated " 13 Janv 64 ". The town (86) may be Valprivas in the Haute-Loire department of South-central France, but this requires confirmation by research.
(Between 1861 and 1872 the population of this town declined from 1475 to 1307, therefor the postmark may be quite scarce on this uncommon stamp).
Known fault: Thin area not visible from the front, but still a good example ( see scan ).
