Seller's Description

Detailed Condtion : Used in good condition. See photos.

Up for auction is a Lot of 150 Antique Glass Plate Negatives taken during and after the building of Panama Canal and of the family and friends of Theodore Thompson who was a member of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons (see Freemasons photo). There are also approx. 25 plastic negatives.

The majority of the glass plate negatives have been scanned using a lightbox into high resolution digital JPEG picture files and will be included on a CD.

The French started the Panama canal in 1881 and the United States took over the project in 1904 and opened the canal in 1914. These pictures are from that 1904-1940 time period and are an amazing historical view of the engineering that took place and portraying life in the Panama Canal Zone. Includes pictures of the electrical generators, switches and pumps.

The American Society of Civil Engineers has ranked the Panama Canal one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

 No Reserve! Good Luck!
