Post Card PC B&W S.S. Klondike I & II Paddlewheeler Whitehorse Yukon 366 New

I bought this on a recent trip to Whitehorse, Yukon.

This Black and White Postcard is of the S.S. Klondike I .

This Postcard is new and has never been mailed.

It measures approximately 6 X 4 inches.

This postcard is in excellent condition.

The rear reads:

S.S. Klondike I and II

Built in Whitehorse in 1929, a subsidiary of the first White Pass and Yukon Route, the S.S. Klondike I represented a breakthrough in stern wheeler design.

Her career came to an abrupt end in 1936 when the vessel ran aground. The company immediately built the Klondike II. a copy of her predecessor. She would make the downstream run from Whitehorse to Dawson - a distance of some 740 km - in 36 hours with one or two stops to take on wood. In August 1955 the S.S. Klondike steamed into Whitehorse on her last run up river to permanent retiirement.
