Sapphire Books started online 15 years ago, after a serious cancer operation that prompted a change of career. The operation was successful and slowly the book business grew. Thankfully the cancer didn't come back but lots of books arrived. What to do with them all? Well my daughter (Anna) and myself (Ian) slowly got our heads around online selling and particularly books. We now have a great book store with lots of rarities and collectables in our large library, around 11,000 all together. We specialize more in the new / like new conditions (unless they're very rare) and most categories are catered for, around 70 in total. Top sellers are history, both ancient and modern, children's books, cookery books, biographies, science, geology, natural history, travel and music. Most of our books are 1st. editions / 1st. printing and each book listing will describe all of this, plus the condition of the book, including it's faults (if any). We feel it's important for our customers to have a complete breakdown of the book in question. Many book sellers ignore this fact and list blind, but not Sapphire Books. Our commitment to customers shows in our 5* feedbacks (we get very few below this). All books are posted to the UK & Internationally in bubble wrap envelopes. They are first cleaned and polished and then bubble wrapped for extra security. Larger, heavier books are normally packed in a box. Oh and you get a free bookmark as well!
Please note we will NOT post to; PO Boxes / Nigeria & Most of Africa / Middle East (except Israel) and Russia, Mexico is now also starting to become problematic (taking at least 1 month to arrive). However, Siberia is OK at the moment.
All in all we wish our customers to have a great shopping experience, just as we ourselves would expect.
Please note that book publishers are great at changing book images. It can cause customer irritation. Please be aware, whilst Sapphire Books will always try to upload the correct image, sometimes it does appear to be different. This is more to do with our virtual library. In addition to our own library stock, we also have books listed that are popular on our virtual library. It is impossible to house tens of thousands of books and remain sane! Therefore these editions are bought as and when they sell and usually posted direct from another seller / publisher resulting in a fast delivery. This has now expanded successfully and we are now proud to represent very large publishers. These books are all new and normally 1st. editions / 1st. printings. The genre of these listings is enormous and this has all grown out of that original idea of operating an online book store.
