Seller's Description

The World of Butterflies & Moths - proffessional breeders and supplier of live and taxidermy insects

BUY: English Peacock Butterfly Caterpillars (Aglais io)

Sold in packs of 15 LIVE hatchling/small caterpillars

Caterpillars ONLY eat Stinging Nettle leaves

Posting every Monday-Wednesday 12am deadline - to avoid weekend postal delays

What to do:

When you receive your caterpillars, move them immediately into a larger cage or box, preferably a net cage. Where possible use live growing food plant in pots, or fresh cut stems with leaves. Place the cuts stems in a plugged water receptacle to avoid wilting. When small your caterpillars will not need too much food plant, add more as they grow. Change foliage regular and if using a water receptacle change the water regular (do not allow the water go stagnant).

The caterpillars will go through several moults. The process takes a few weeks until finally the mature caterpillar spins a silk pad, attaches itself then pupates into a Chrysalis. Your Small Tortoiseshell butterflies will emerge after a few weeks of pupation.

This is a British species and can be released back into the wild

Perfect home or school project

Please make sure you have some husbandry skills before buying

If you intend keeping the adult butterflies they will need a large net cage for flying and feed on fresh cut flowers such as valerian, buddleia, verbena, scabious etc. or use honey-water solution.

This is first generation wild bred stock from wild females collected in Lincolnshire England.

Transportation method: With small caterpillars we use vented petri dishes and 1st class post; for larger caterpillars we use vented plastic tubs and 1st class post. We only add sufficient food plant for the journey. Occasionally Royal Mail looses parcels which is most distressing for all concerned. To guarantee quick delivery use our SPECIAL DELIVERY option.

Personal Guarantee: If you have any issues with either dead on arrival livefood, disease or parasites within 2 weeks of delivery, then we will happily replace your caterpillars free of charge.

Visit: www.wobam.co.uk for more live caterpillars and also a huge selection of dried insects.
