Please note the camera is not compatible with Apple Mac computers or Apple iPhones and iPads via USB (connects to Windows computer only). It connects to Android devices via WiFi using the XDV app.

The Vision features a 120º FOV lens that gives a horizontal view of around 100 degrees, approximately 15mm equivalent in film photography. Most action cameras use a 170º fisheye lens to capture peripheral vision and action close to the camera. Whilst this is good for pure action use, for general purpose camera we prefer a narrower lens.

There is less curvature at the edges of the image. You can focus more in front of you, and less at the sides of the trail.  Its still wide enough for first person helmet cam action. This lens works well for chase footage in mountain biking and snow sports, and for stationary filming of your friends riding from the side of the trail.  Its is also good for aerial photos using drones, for people, travel, landscapes and as a general purpose camera.

The Vision action camera takes beautiful quality 4k video (interpolated), 2.7k (native) and 1080P (native) at 60fps for smooth slow motion effects. With an 8 Magapixel Sony sensor it takes high quality photos that can be enlarged and printed. It is also capable of 720P at 120fps. The large 2" LCD display helps you frame your shots and check them afterwards. The display is used to access the menu system where there are many useful features and settings.

These include a 10 photo per second burst mode as well as timelapse video and a timed photos. You can set it to take photos automatically in the background whilst you do your activity, and come back with some great images. There is exposure compensation so you can override the automatic exposure for certain situations, such as filming against a bright sky. It also has loop recording, date stamp and can act as a webcam. WiFi connectivity is built in with a handy remote control. This is useful for remote applications such as model airplanes and drones.

The waterproof case and range of mounting options make it suitable for many outdoor sports. These include helmet and handlebar mounts as well as a belt clip and tripod adapter. The picture can be rotated by 180 degrees to allow more mounting options. The standard closed back is good for reducing wind noise, but it does block some of the ambient sound. It comes with an open back for the case (not waterproof!) to let in the ambient sound if you prefer. We also include lens caps for the camera and case.

Why should I choose this camera?

The quality of the video and photos depends mostly on which CMOS imaging sensor the camera uses. As a user of action cameras myself I set out to find this information in purchasing my own cameras. I aim to bring you a budget camera with excellent image quality for the price, and a specification you can rely on. Sony's third generation Exmor R™ back illuminated sensor realises higher picture quality and nearly twofold sensitivity over earlier sensors. The colour balance and exposure work well with the out of the box settings. The narrower lens angle of the Vision is ideal for a general purpose camera that you can take anywhere in your pocket. It is suitable for action sports, travelling, holidays and many other uses.
