Welcome to the Fisher-Price Music Series

Throughout childhood, from the earliest lullabies to preschool sing-alongs, music provides comfort and a foundation for language, learning and even muscular engagement. Tender Lullabies

The universal practice of singing a baby to sleep is a cherished ritual that comforts baby, nurtures bonds, and encourages restful sleep. But lullabies do so much more. In fact, as your baby learns to process the pitch of the music, an essential foundation for language development is built. In this recording, favorite lullabies are performed instrumentally in a range that is ideal for vocal accompaniment. So hold your baby close and sing or hum your little one to sleep. This will nurture the wonderful bond between parent and child.

Music Principles

This recording is specially designed to be appropriate for your baby’s ears and mind;
• Tunes are set in the comforting lower pitch range of a relaxed mother’s voice.
• Melody patterns are short and often repeated — babies are able to recognize and remember these patterns from birth.

Helpful Advice for using Tender Lullabies

1. Create a soothing environment:

• Make sure that your baby is comfortable.
• Adjust the volume on your stereo to a medium level. If the music is too quiet or too loud, it will not have the desired, engaging effect.

2. Sing or hum along:

• Babies bond with their parents through vocal connection — so sing, or hum along,
• You cannot ruin your baby’s musicality if you have a less—than—perfect singing voice — so sing along without inhibition.
• Parents naturally use exaggerated inflection when talking to babies. Do the same when singing to develop pitch and sound pattern recognition - the foundation of language.

3. Hold your baby close and move to the music:

• Babies held close can hear their parent’s heartbeat. This sound was a part of your baby’s environment for months before birth and will continue to impart comfort and security.
• Rock or walk your baby to the rhythmic pulse of the music to increase its calming effect.

4. Create a predictable environment:
