This BabyRice Premium Family Hand Casting Kit contains everything you need to cast up to four adult hands in the container and includes a premium paint and wax finish.  Option for No Paint finish is now available.  You can always upgrade to a larger kit, containing double the amount of alginate and plaster if you would like to create two casts. This is also a great option for novice casters as it gives you the opportunity to practice casting with plenty of materials in reserve for the real thing.

How's it done?

(See the video on this listing).  Making your hand cast keepsake is quite simple when the instructions are followed :)  First, you need to make your impression mould, using the alginate and water.  Sprinkle correct quantity of alginate into correct quantity of 30 degree water, mix for up to 1 minute 40 seconds, then take 10-20 seconds to arrange your hands and dunk into the mixture, the mixture then starts to set and will set after 30 seconds or so.  Hands are carefully removed (and the alginate holds the perfect shape of your hands whilst you do this) and then the plaster/water mix is prepared and gently poured into the mould (ensuring there are no airpockets and air bubbles created during pouring).  Then, just a couple of hours later, you can safely and carefully remove the alginate from your newly made plaster cast.  Your plaster cast will need at least 10-14 days to fully dry out before painting it.  These are the basic steps, you will need to follow the instructions that come with each kit.

How many hands can I cast?
This depends on size of the hands!  The provided 5L container has an internal diameter of 22cm and as a guide, this is large enough for:

• up to 4 adult hands
• up to 2 adults and 3 children
• up to 3 adults and 2 children

This larger kit contains double the quantity of alginate and plaster, producing two casts of up to four adult hands, when using the provided container to create the impression mould. This means you can have a practice run with plenty of materials in reserve, making this a great option for first time casters.

Skin safe
Our Family Hand Casting Kits contains high-grade, colour changing (chromatic) BabyRice alginate impression powder, which is totally safe for use on skin. The main ingredient of BabyRice alginate is seaweed and conforms to British Safety Standards (BS 4269 Pt.2:1991) and ISO 1563:1990.

BabyRice alginate has a short working and quick setting time, so you don't have to keep your hands in the alginate mould for too long whilst waiting for it to set.

Strong and durable
Each family hand casting kit is supplied with Herculite II Plaster, a strong, white, stone based casting plaster. Thanks to a fast setting time, Herculite II is the ideal material for casting. Our white plaster provides a fantastic base for painting and faithfully captures all the detail from the impression mould.

Your choice of finish
With the exception of the No Paint option, BabyRice casting kits have a large choice of finishing options. Painting your cast helps to seal and protect it, preventing dust and damp from damaging your cast over time. Our Premium Family Hand Casting Kits are supplied with a pot of black paint, which is used as a base coat and a pot of rich, highly pigmented metallic wax. Choose from: bronze, silver, gold, brass, copper, champagne, pink, blue, pewter and rose gold.
