Seller's Description
Original 1893 5 inch x 6 7/8 inch Engraving titled A PORTRAIT GROUP
From a photograph by Henry Van der Weyde (1838 - 192). A founder member of the Linked Ring Brotherhood of those 'who delight in photography soley for it' artistic possibilities', he was a painter turned professional portrait photographer. In 1892 he publicised his photo corrector (Rectograph) causing a stir in the world of photography. In 1877 Van der Weyde became the first photographer to install and take portraits by electric light allowing him to take a lot of portraits in a short period of time. The light was provided by a Crossley gas engine which drove a Siemens dynamo, which in turn fed an arc light in a five-foot reflector. Owing to lack of money the patent of this was never completed.
Published in the Art Journal 1893
Page size 12 1/2 inch x 9 1/4 inch
The print is in very good condition. Printed text above the image and on the reverse with another image.
