This special colorized, commemorative edition was issued in honor of the June 6, 1944, Allied invasion of France! America and her Allies HAD to win WW2 in order to save civilization. The Longest Day emphasizes/reminds that point to the audience. Acclaimed as one of Hollywood's greatest epics, producer Darryl F. Zanuck's re-creation of the Allied landing at Normandy on June 6, 1944 follows the grand-scale drama and personal stories of D-Day. International all-star cast includes John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Rod Steiger, Richard Burton, Red Buttons, Sean Connery, Mel Ferrer, Robert Ryan. The various perspectives from the Yanks, Britons, Scottish, French, Canadian, and Germans preparing for battle and inside the theater of war brings home the gravity of the situation. There are so many international actors you can't count all of them: John Wayne, Richard Burton, Fabian, Roddy MacDowell, Robert Mitchum, Michael Todd, Sean Connery, Sal Mineo, and the list goes on and on. Many of these performers are Veterans of WW2. There is less gore in this movie which I appreciate. Excellent writing, acting, directing. Cerebral.
