Säljarens Beskrivning
Original 10 inch x 8 inch Black and White Portrait of WILLIAM FAIRCHILD in the gear he used for directing underwater sequences of his 1958 War Film THE SILENT ENEMY.
Based on Marshall Pugh's book “Commander Crabb”, it was made following the publicity created by Crabb's mysterious disappearance and likely death during a Cold War incident a year earlier.
William Fairchild (1918 - 2000) was born in Cornwall in 1918 and educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. Beginning his career as a naval officer, William pursued writing while serving in World War II. By 1943, Fairchild had published his first book, "A Matter of Duty", under the pseudonym Edward Cranston. During the 1950's, he wrote several screenplays, that were later released by major film companies, including his "Operation Disaster" (1950), "Silent Enemy" (1958) and "Star!" (1968), which earned him the Writers Guild Award.
The portrait is in very good condition with minor surface marks and captions tacked to the reverse.
