Säljarens Beskrivning
Original 1872 6 1/2 inch x 9 7/8 inch coloured print titled BROMUS SECALINUS, VAR. GENUINUS. RYE BROME-GRASS, VAR. A.
Bromus secalinus is a species of bromegrass known as rye brome. The specific epithet secalinus is Latin, meaning "rye-like". The fruits are hard, rounded glumes that appear superficially similar to the rye grain, which gives the brome its common and scientific name. The grass is native to Eurasia but is well known in many other parts of the world where it has been introduced. It is a noxious weed throughout much of North America.
Drawn by John Edward Sowerby (1825 - 1870). A British botanical illustrator and publisher born in Lambeth, London.
From a disbound copy of English Botany; or, Coloured Figures of British Plants edited by John T. Boswell Syme
Third Edition Published in London in 1872 by by Robert Hardwicke, 192 Piccadilly.
The print is in very good condition. Reverse side blank.
