Original 1682 16 1/2 inch x 6 5/8 inch Etching titled PAULUS CALIARY VERONENSIS IN & PINX

Juno showering grace upon Venice; in the upper section is Juno seated on a cloud, showering gifts including a crown, coins and a laurel wreath upon the female personification of Venice who is seated beneath, looking upwards, a lion and a sceptre at her feet at left.

Print made by Valentin Lefebre (1637 - 1677). Lefebre was a painter and etcher, born in Brussels. He settled in Venice where he produced the 'Opera Selectiora' of etchings after Titian and Veronese. The series was left unfinished at his early death, and finally published in 1682 by Jacobus van Campen.

After Paolo Veronese (1528 - 1588). Paolo was born in Verona – hence his nickname 'Veronese'. His father was a stonecutter and his mother was the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman called Caliari. Veronese moved to Venice in the early 1550s and stayed there for the rest of his life, becoming one of the leading painters of the 16th century.

The etching is in good condition with short tears top and bottom, some fine creases and general age-related toning and minor defects from handling.
