John has the ear of many of serious songwriters here in St. John’s. He recently turned 60 and to celebrate he released a fantastic record. Unashamedly autobiographical, John’s stories translate into an album that pours over with loss, self-deprecating reflection and a longing for time at the far end of youth. Don’t let this fool you, though. Hope hangs in the wings of each song,
“Hey hey, wait up for me! Wait up, wait up for me!”,
John sings. He sings as though his life depends on the transmission of these songs and in a way, it really does. This album is a quiet masterpiece; honest, aching and beautiful. Will it be remembered as one of the great Newfoundland albums?
