RA** This is a beautiful undated but modern published official postcard from Londons Royal Academy Of Arts for this historic painting of Dolbaden Castle by JMW Turner from 1800 with artist details, dates, dimensions etc & Royal Academy Of Arts logo on reverse being the official souvenir from when exhibited.
This is one of Turners earliest dozen or so oil paintings, although he had been exhibiting watercolours since 1790. Castles, especially Welsh ones, were one of Turners themes at the time: in the previous year he exhibited two paintings of other Welsh castles (Harlech and Kilgarran, now called Cilgerran); and in both 1799 and 1800 he exhibited watercolours of Caernarvon Castle. In 1798 he exhibited a painting of Dunstanborough Castle and a watercolour of Norham Castle, and in 1800 a watercolour of Warkworth Castle, all in Northumberland. This special commemorative postcard is unused and mint.
