A Charlie’s Aunt Design

Inspired by the styles of the early 1950s, these roomy shoulder bags combine a practical size and shape with unique detailing. One version, has a pretty pleated overlay at the front to give added texture. It fastens with a long pointed tab/ magnetic snap and features a shaped strap. The second version has a stylized flap and pleated external pocket, and a plain shoulder strap. The bags measure approximately 17” wide x 13” high x 5” deep at the base, excluding shoulder strap.

Features a pleated bow-shaped overlay at the front to add interest and texture. It fastens with a long pointed tab/magnetic snap, trimmed with buttons and has a short shaped strap.

• ¾ yard of 54” wide, or 1 yard of 44” wide woolen or decorator fabric for bag exterior
• ¾ yard of 44” wide lining fabric for bag lining and interior pocket
• ½ yard of 44” wide fleece for interfacing bag (read note below)
• ½ yard of 44” wide, or 1 yard of 36” wide medium weight sew-in interfacing for interfacing bag
• 1/3 yard of 36” wide fusible interfacing for shoulder strap and front tab
• One magnetic snap closure set
• 13½” x 4½” piece of plastic canvas or similar product to stiffen bag base
• One 6” long zipper for interior pocket
• Two new or vintage buttons, approximately 1½” diameter for front tab trim
• Sewing thread to match

Has a broad stylized flap trimmed with buttons, and a pleated external pocket. This view has a plain shoulder strap.

Note: Streetcar Bags use a layer of heavy sew-in interfacing Layered between the exterior fabric and the fleece to give extra body and shape to the bag. You can omit the fleece if you feel your fabric weight does not require it.
