OUR BABU - Framed photograph
Frame size 6 1/2" x 5"
Image size 4 1/2" x 3"
Black and white. Good condition. The frame is only a cheap dark wood and has no value but has protected the photograph.
OUR BABU was bred in Ireland in 1952 by Sir Oliver Lambart by My Babu out of Glen Line by Blue Peter. As a 2 year old he won the Spring Stakes at Newmarket, the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, heading the Free Handicap as a result.
In 1955 he was beaten in his trial but won the 2000 Guineas by a neck from Tamerlane with Klairon a short head away third. He was unplaced in the Derby and his final race was third in the St James' Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting before retiring to stud in America where his offspring won over 170 races worth $500,000.
Nice item for collectors of horse racing memorabilia.
