Säljarens Beskrivning
Original 1893 4 1/2 inch x 3 inch Engraving titled HENRY TATE
Sir Henry Tate, 1st Baronet (1819 – 1899) was an English sugar merchant and philanthropist, noted for establishing the Tate Gallery in London.
Engraved by James Davis Cooper (1823 - 1904). A prominent London wood engraver and draughtsman on wood, who engraved after the major artists of his day.
From a photograph by John Thomson (1837 - 1921). A pioneering Scottish photographer, geographer, and traveller. He was one of the first photographers to travel to the Far East, documenting the people, landscapes and artefacts of eastern cultures. Upon returning home, his work among the street people of London cemented his reputation, and is regarded as a classic instance of social documentary which laid the foundations for photojournalism. He went on to become a portrait photographer of High Society in Mayfair, gaining the Royal Warrant in 1881.
