Fråga Från paulr4641 [+3158] Lör 13 jan 2024 12:13:46 (CEST) Hi. Just wanted to mention that this postage due can't be D44 (Tudor wmk) as this watermark wasn't issued till 1954-55. The postmark is 1952, so it must've been issued before then.

Svar från shelaghnugent [+4864] Tis 16 jan 2024 21:14:20 (CEST) Hi Paul, thanks for the headache. It was marked as Tudor Crown when I got it and I accepted it as correct. I have since got a watermark detector and have given this a turn in it. It was a bugger to work out what it was. I believe it is Wmk 127, the GviR. Which makes this D32. I'll amend the listing accordingly. Many thanks for the heads. Kim

Fråga Från paulr4641 [+3158] Tis 16 jan 2024 21:46:25 (CEST) Hi Kim. No problem! I know they're a pain in trhe backside to identify and I have spent many an hour going through the large amount I have. I don't know if you were aware, but the easiest way to check these (as well as a watermark detector) and cheapest is using lighter fluid. Place face down on a piece of black plastic and pop a few drops on it. The watermark, more often than not magically appears. The lighter fluid evaporates within minutes leaving the stamp perfectly unharmed. It even works on mint ones with no damage. Try it on some cheap or damaged ones. You will be amazed.

Svar från shelaghnugent [+4864] Ons 17 jan 2024 10:10:38 (CEST) Hi Paul, I know the hack with the lighter fuel and have used it myself. The trouble I had with this one was the cancellation obscuring the wmk. I have a Signscope Wmk detector which works quite well and is usually up to the job. Take care, Kim
