This is a New Old Stock FU50 pentode valve for preamp stages of hi-fi audio amplifiers. Used in current production valve hi-fi amplifiers and with an attractive metal top plate and Bakelite handle, an eye catching addition to any home valve hifi project.
This valve is the Chinese version of the Russian GU-50 RF pentode, which in itself was a copy of the Telefunken LS-50 used in Wehrmacht radio transmitters during WWII.



Manufactured by Beijing Shuguang. This valve is a plug in replacement for those used in current far eastern valve amplifiers but uses a special 8 pin socket, see separate listing in our store for details.

<Handy hint> Changing your valve


Once you have the back or cover removed from the amplifier/radio/record player you are changing a valve in it's easy to change. First, the safety warnings;

Unplug the unit from the mains before removing any covers.

Don't try to change the valve when the unit has been recently switched on... valves get hot enough to burn you!

Try not to touch anything inside the unit except the valve you are changing as some parts can hold high voltages even when it has been switched off for some time.

Now for the easy bit.... hold the valve you are changing between two fingers and your thumb and rocking it slightly to free its pins, pull it firmly straight up and it will unplug. You will see that the pins form a circle with an inner plastic/Bakelite peg with a bump on one side.

Take a look at the socket to see where the indentation on the centre hole is and taking the new valve, line the centre peg up correctly with the gap and again rocking it around slightly (only a few degrees) push the new valve in until it is firmly seated. Replace back cover, switch on.... all done!

Preamp valves like this double triode don't need any further setting up or baising, so thats all there is to it. Changing these valves can make your sound instantly brighter and punchy, so why not spend a few pounds and bring the life back into your amplifier!
