Säljarens Beskrivning

Original 1952 Reprint 13 1/2 inch x 8 1/2 inch Colour Print of the 1868 Lithograph titled THE FOUR SEASONS OF LIFE: OLD AGE. “The Season of Rest”.

Older couple sitting in parlor by fireplace – he is listening to girl reading to him, she is knitting..

Drawn by Charles Parsons (1821 - 1910). An American artist and lithographer who, after being apprenticed to George Endicott, worked for Nathaniel Currier, later Currier & Ives. He became head of the art department of Harper’s publishing firm in 1863. And Lyman W. Atwater (1835 - 1891). An American artist.

Engraved by James Merritt Ives (1824 - 1895). An American lithographer, bookkeeper, and businessman. He oversaw the business and financial side of the firm, Currier and Ives, which he co-managed with his business partner, Nathaniel Currier.

Originally produced in 1869 by Currier and Ives. The New York firm of Currier & Ives grew from a printing business established by Nathaniel Currier (1813–1888) in 1835. Expansion led, in 1857, to a partnership with brother-in-law James Merritt Ives (1824–1895). The firm operated until 1907, lithographing over 4,000 subjects for distribution across America and Europe with popular categories including landscape, marines, natural history, genre, caricatures, portraits, history and foreign views. Until the 1880s, images were printed in monochrome, then hand-colored by women who worked for the company at home.

Inscription under the image: “J.M. IVES, DEL. DRAWN BY PARSONS & ATWATER // Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year AD 1868, by Currier & Ives, in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York. // Reprinted from LITH. PUB. BY CURRIER & IVES, N.Y.”
