Carnelian Agate Cabochon: Rich, Dark Orange with Subtle Banding

Extremely saturated red-orange colors pull you into this stone. The stone is still translucent, and shows off its internal banding patterns when held up to the light. The stone is polished on both front and back, and so may be used in an open-back or wire wrap setting where the translucency can be appreciated. There is a bit of opaque pink agate on one edge, which I personally find interesting, but which you should be easily to cover when setting if desired. Carnelian was one of the favorite gemstones of the ancient Greeks and Romans, often carved into seals and ringstones. This one I'd be tempted to class as "sard" due to its intense color. Very pretty piece.
