Additional descriptive notes (if applicable): the full text on the back of the postcard reads: Liverpool Overhead Railway. Opened in 1893, this was the first overhead railway in the world to be operated by electricity. It was affectionally known as the 'Dockers Umbrella' and gave the traveller a wonderful view of the docks. It had escaped nationalisation in 1948 but was closed in 1956.
