"I, Albert Herisson, of 2, Place de l'Esplanade, Nimes, Department of the Gard, in the Republic of France, Engineer, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement: This invention has for its object to provide a friction clutch which differs from clutches hitherto known, in being of but small size and being brought gradually into action thus avoiding shocks and sudden stoppages..."
