have QIs dropped again do you understand your first post asked for a explanation as to refusal you never asked for this to be a option you implied with your request it would be standard,
out of the goodness of my heart i can understand that some including yourself wish to engage in correspondence with a failed offer, i dont thats why i asked it should be a option, let me tell you what option means in this case, i can engage with a buyer over a failed offer, or i dont engage with a buyer over a failed offer.
what are you going to say after you reject there offer, very sorry but i have rejected your offer, or , im sorry but i need more than that as i want to go on holiday , as a buyer im not interested in any explanation, i win or i dont win, i counter the offer with a bigger offer or i go else were were im not hassled.

To be honest I'm not bothered about the sellers who don't want this option if they don't like it then they can just ignore it. But like others i think it is a good idea and like i have already said i have used this option on another site and it was a very useful and successful tool.
Sorry but there is more to selling than saying NO especially to new buyers, but that's for everyone on this site to find out for themselves. One of the great things about such an option is that the seller can find out what sort of items their buyers like to purchase. The seller can then list such items and some can even be reserved, all this is achieved by communicating with your buyers.
A great idea for the sellers who say they can't sell anything. Why list items that people don't want to buy!
My motto is "Don't let a potential buyer get away"
but you should be bothered about all sellers opinions your original post did not state there should be a option , which is were i came in.
i list what i have, i specialise, any buyer can see that, they can ask via any listing have you got such and such, as they have done in the past, your also turning this debate into a much larger field. you want dialogue on a refused offer, but now you want to engage in unrelated items the buyer might want, there two completely different things, and brings in to question at what point do you think this could potentially lead to off site sales?

This would be a great OPTION!! As Purplestevie mentioned, I too have sold on another site that allowed dialogue with buyers who wanted to "make a good deal" and turned the sale of one item into a sale of multiple items. Example: I have a lot of vintage fabric and sack cloth that is very attractive to quilters. Not having time to list everything I had, when someone would make an offer on one piece of quilting fabric I would explain that there is not much "wiggle room" on one item but if they would tell me about their project, I might have other fabric/accessories that they might be interested in and would be happy to create a post for each item and the more they bought the more "wiggle room" I had on giving a discount. In most cases, I was able to turn a single item sale into a multiple item sale which benefited buyer, seller & site. Worst case scenario was that they didn't want something I listed, but the listing was still there for someone else.
I'm not sure how doing that would lead to off site sales, as you get no contact information until a purchase has been made but I suppose some unscrupulous sellers could figure out a way. With the low FVFs I pay, it's not worth the risk of being caught making an off site sale, nor would my conscience allow me to do that. I've often wondered how many "off-site" sales have been made through the "Wanted" thread on the forums. On the other site I sold on, wanted items was a category integrated into the "for sale items" section and all offers, questions, etc. were in public view. If you had an item someone wanted, you could post the listing number in the comments and they could take a look. Unfortunately, that site "caved" to the lure of knockoffs and I'm surprised they are still in business because they do not enforce intellectual property rights and just about everything they sell these days takes 4-6 weeks for shipping.......
Just my 2 cents but if dialogue were an option I'd probably add MAO to the majority of my items.

I can't imagine what site that would be! Really that other site allows buyers to offer a higher price as well and mention certain conditions such as including accessories or purchasing multiple items in a single higher priced transaction.I too have sold on another site that allowed dialogue with buyers
I think being able to state the reason for declining an offer is good. I sold something on that other bay site and I kept declining someone's offer. They were maybe running low on offers or had gotten frustrated and said "please accept or make a counter offer". I declined the offer saying that my item is the cheapest currently listed. I bumped the price 3% and the same buyer ended up buying it a week later at full price. They delay was probably waiting for their other offers to expire.
Very easy I suppose, if you want to break the rules and risk being removed from the site:

Selling Off Site/The posting of Contact Details.
- Attempts to sell off-site will mean the removal of all auctions of the seller in question. If a Q&A is received offering to buy the only response is to ask them to make a bid.
- All Q&A responses must be made within a reasonable length of time from the time of the original question. Unanswered questions will deem the seller and thus the auction to be inactive.
- We do not allow the posting of contact details in the auction. By this we mean telephone numbers, email addresses or links/details pertaining to a third party ecommerce site.
- References to email or website addresses in usernames is not allowed. This includes but is not limited to '.com' '.co.uk' '.net' or 'dot'.
And another thread on the subject in the forums regarding contact information:

Option means choice and as someone else said "Options are good"
