I'm reviving this old thread.
I had a small USD deposit last night and another today.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to send a message to PayPal to report it.
Edited. I just managed to figure out how to email PayPal and I've reported it now.

I heard back from PayPal. They didn't seem to understand what I was concerned about and the response didn't match my concern. Oh well. Nothing else new on this front. It's so important not to click on links without verifying the source of the email. Some of the phishing emails that I get look so realistic. The scammers are very tricky.

I have had many of these over the past two months, some up to $70. Then later they get their bank to reverse the deposit. At this point Paypal charge me a sellers fee for returning the money even though it was unsolicited.
I got through to Paypal customer support in the end on the phone, I think I got a phone number when chat couldn't sort me out. Very helpful, they reimbursed me all charges and gave me a little extra for my inconvenience.
The deposits are mostly $, sometimes £, the sender is always in CAPITALS and never any reference or advice as to why the money is sent.
Paypal assured me that it would be a strange scam because the sender can't profit from it or get access to my account.
These days I see a button which allows me to refuse unsolicited payments so I use that.

Thanks Bill. I got another one today and have written to PayPal again. As you wrote, if this is some kind of scam, I don't see how it would work in their favour. It's beyond me.
