not on your part but the buyer could not make copies of it to sell as frith have a whole company that does it commercially

OK the first in the list is a valentines (well thats what it says on the top) but I cannot see a number on the rear, is it the number on the front like H 2958?

The 2nd to list says 8330 colorphoto H. Steinhauer, Interlaken, so am I right in thinking that this was postcard 8330 by colourphoto & photographed by H Steinhauer who lives in Interlaken
yes it is the number on the front and the judges No. would either be just a number or a jvfollowed by the No.

the steinhauer sounds like it might be a foriegn card (which is a whole new ball game)

the other one to look out for is dennis productions... they number the card either on the front or the back and could be a single letter followed by No.s or a collection of letters followed by No.s

(sorry sarah.... no one said postcards are easy)[/quote]

LOL, I think I just found that out

I have 120 ish only so at 1 day that is my next 4 months taken up

Once you get the hang of it, it's quite quick. I scan and list 24 a day, which takes me about an hour.

You got a couple of Peck maps - there is a current "wanted" for them.
Also spotted some John Hinde cards - again there is a current "wanted".

I didn't think there would be, but I didn't pay much for them

The point is, if you don't know anything about them and the seller was not a dealer, there's always a possibility of finding a "little gem".

Early March I bought a lot from an auction house - I know the auctioneer well, but he is not in the least a bit interested in postcards. The lot of about 800 cards was valued at £30-£40. I had a good look through them and found about 40 cards worth between £15 and £20 each, plus all the rest of them and there was about a 100 cards I wanted for myself of my local area.
I left a bid for £420 and got them for £350. I more then doubled my money on them.
I got away with it, because this auction house is not renowned for pc's (or philately for that matter). Had there been other dealers there, I would have had to pay quite a bit more - actually on the afternoon of the auction, I sat here biting my nails, worrying that my bid wouldn't be high enough (tbh I was more interested in the local cards - again some of which would sell for double figures, then thinking of selling).

Sarah welcome to our Mad world, Ive collected pc since I was 7, though only delt un them for about 35years, as Marianne says you always hope that when you by cards like you have there might be a gem sometimes it could be because of the unusual postmark there are so many things that make there value, but think you will enjoy the mad world, & it is surprising what people collect.

Imust say at this very early stage that I prefer pcs (see picking up the lingo aleady) compared to the vinyls that I am still listening too.

Now a new question (or 2), what is the best way to store them? (other than in a shredder) should I put them in a clear bag and lay flat, or should I store them in a bag and keep upright?
What is the best way to post singular cards?

Sarah probably for you, would be a shoe box we store up right in pc boxs which are realy just shoe type boxes, & as Nigel said & then when you get loads more youll need another shoe box, also besides boxes we have 10 filing drawers as well.
We actualy give each card a no code to help identifie the card also sometimes you end up with a duplicate name on a pc.(place name)so a code does help.

i can go slightly better than marriane.... we viewd an auction a while back of 6 albums each with 500 cards (all modern military).... we penciled in £300 and got the lot for £65... we sold the albums for that when we had emptied them... all the cards are profit...... and we are selling the cards like there is no tomorrow

I store them upright in shoeboxes (with lids to keep the dust off).

It is wise to protect your cards when you post them out. For ease I use card backed enveloppes ( which is reflected in my p&p charges), but you could just use ordinary enveloppes and use a piece of stiff card (any old cardboard box cut into rectangulars the right size) to protect them.

posting single cards or several in a envelope pc. size envelopes, & then cut ceral boxes ect up to stiffen the envelopes, must admit, Nigels aunt cuts all the card & does about 50 envelopes at a time for us.so only have to do envelopes if I run out which isnt ofton & its alot cheaper than bying stiff backed envelopes.you said about putting them in a bag, thats fine as long as they dont sweat.
