I wish I still had all my old toys. Many of them would be worth a fair bit of money now.

I remember being given one of tholse old bread delivery trays full of boxed Matchbox cars in as new condition. They would be worth a small fortune now. No idea what happened to them. I know my elder sister used to hide them if I upset her. Maybe they got hid once and never recovered. Or, more likely, I lost them bit by bit over time.

I suppose the toy I got most 'play value' out of would have to be my Meccano set. Bits from that still turn up from time to time after nearly 40 years.

Don't you think that toys in the past both offered the chance to, and demanded that, kids use their imagination to play with them? Science kits, multi function toys like Mecanno or other construction based toys, chemistry sets, water powered rockets, model steam engines, gyroscopes, telescopes and loads of other "brain powered" toys were the norm. Todays toys are somewhat less demanding, less amusing and less played with. IMO.

I honestly think that plastic ruined toys.

I well remember my early toys being made from pressed tinplate with lithographic printed graphics. The engineering that went into them was amazing.

I loved the toys my kids had when small.

Fisher Price garage, market town, 1,000 of Polly Pockets, which looked great spinning around inside the Dyson.

    Playmobile~ tons of that.

    All gone now~

Kids should be shown their new toys and then immediately have them taken off them and stored away as an investment for their future.

A picture of the toy would be more than sufficient.

My favourite toy was my teddy bear, and i still have him, although he is quite battered now & very very old, i also used to like playing tea partys, & mixing up stuff to put in the cups, oh and i remember where i lived when i was young, there were a lot of other kids about & we used to play schools. Although playing schools didn't really involve having toys (if that makes sense).
Back in those days my mum never kept any off our old toys once we grew out of them.
I however kept a lot of my kids old toys, which i still have in the loft.
