    *snip*
To upload money into your nochex account or to send it direct from your bank account via the nochex system costs 99p - therefore the buyer incurs a charge already.

Not at all that's what you call a scamwith me the buyer is paying for a service and they no that with extortionate p&p charges the money is conned out of the buyer cause they dont know what they are paying for gold leaf gift wrap with bow ops: or brown parcel wrap..... anyway whats FVF's
OK, let's get something straight first: I'm not accusing you of scamming anyone, just incase you thought that that was the case.

What I am doing is comparing you charging people to use NOCHEX with people on eBay who make additional money from their sales by selling the item low with high P&P costs to avoid paying their Final Value Fees (aka FVFs) and therefore making more from their lot.

So long as you clearly advertise your P&P and state what level of postage this covers, whether it is wrapped in brown paper or gold leaf is by the by.

Look if you lived in the middle of nowhere only had a credit card and the shop charged £1.00 to use it you desperately need to buy something would you put your credit card back in your purse/wallet cause of the charge nope i dont think so....

If nochex charge buyers for using the facility as well as the sellers then that is wrong and I PERSONALLY WOULD NOT USE THIS SERVICE IF I WAS A BUYER WHETHER THE SELLER CHARGES OR NOT.

But the thing is some buyers dont mind this.....I will say that I have learned something 2day about nochex thank you, but my arguement was defending my own charge not theirs...coor 99p is a bit steep, but what's the diff now if I go and put all my prices up again and take off the charge none apart from the person paying by check will now be paying even more....I think I'm going to leave this subject well alone ....thanks for the infor though.

OK - so the person posting a cheque choses to fork out the extra (50p at most) to do so. How's this then, would you charge them for your time to take that cheque to bank to cash it as well? Of course not.

The NOCHEX option has already incurred that buyer a 99p charge to upload the money from their bank account, or to xfer it direct from their account to your nochex account. So, why charge them this 99p for nochex if you're not also going to charge it for your time to cash the cheque? This smacks of double standards.

And, of course, it is an extreme example but it highlights the issue of needless charging. How about not incurring it at all and not accepting NOCHEX or other online transactions at all? Oh, I forget, that would then be an inconvenience to you.....

That's a different kettle of fish altogether as there's no alternative. And, by the way, ALL credit card transactions are surcharged anyway. The fact that you pay the same price if you pay by cash just means that you're actually paying more to use real currency....

You choice, but I think you'll find more buyers will be willing to pay the upload charge rather than your "cost covering" charge.

You cant compare me with people who sell on ebay, they are gaining more profit out of higher p&p like you say saving on fvf's i'm not making anymore money by charging the fees, the principle for me was that that is just the same as someone paying by cheque they are paying the same
28p stamp and an envelope= 50p mthe cost to whichever buyer is the same, I dont understand what your on about, charging trips to the bank sorry I must be a bit thick I am not following you at all.

Why should I not accept payments at all if the customer is happy to pay then I'm happy simple..but at least the option is there it's called providing a service..i'm not personally gaining anything from it nochex are but its providing a service..they can take it or pay by another method or leave it.

I don't charge users for Nochex because the amount I get sent is the amount I receive. I tend to spend my Nochex money, therefore it never costs me anything to use the funds in there. Buyer may have to pay £0.99 to upload (that's the buyers choice, if they've got a bit of cash, if they load more than you need then they can spread that 99p charge over a few auction wins)

Fastpay too is good, you get what you are sent. The buyer pays £0.20 (less than a 1st class stamp)

Paypal. I always charge a surcharge, this is because the amount I receive is less fees. When I sell an item for £5, I expect me to be £5 better off, not £4.60. Most of my auction wins are less than £5 in total, so a paypal fee would typically be 30p. Most people seem happy to pay a fee, providing it's reasonable. Fees for small amounts normally equate to a first class stamp, and it saves them time from writing cheques, envelopes and saves them a trip to post office.
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.
