a sellers account xtra enables you account so you can take a one off debit card payment from people....

I think you can also send up to £300 rather than just £90 too....

Daft I can't answer this properly... I have a sellers account... LOL

I must be in the minority though... I don't mind paying the 99p to send money.. or to download it... it means I get my dosh quicker than a cheque or fastpay for the matter....

So I've no complaints with them.... although I have not received one payment throug them since I opened the sellers account! LOL

Ooooooh! it makes me MAD. :x

i never charge any extra for payment through paypal or nochex.

i think people that do charge have a bloody cheek.

it seems they want the quick convenient online payment but don`t wish to pay for.
people sign up for online payments so they can get payment qickly and safely with no trips to the bank to deposit cheques.
it seems sellers who addon extra charges want their cake and eat it.

I really liked the idea of Xtra but what ****es me off is that new customers get charged £1 (whatever the size of sale) to use Xtra. Wot a rip off and wot stupid business.

Eg new NoChex customer buys £9.99 CD. Gets charged £1 to load the £9.99 then gets charged again to load up their account. On PayPal cost is about 62p charged to vendor. NoChex £1 charged to buyer....?!

They are on drugs! - Shame as Xtra is a nice idea

Sorry but I am one of those who do charge extra, the reason is so that I still get my profit, its just the same as cheque payers paying for a stamp and an envelope to send their cheque no different, either way they pay, the price to them in theory is still the same and I dont have to worry about the charges just like I dont have to think about the charges for postage.

All my postage charges are estimates though, until I get to the post office I never know whether i'm going to be out of pocket or the customer, most of the time I am, I make very little or no profit as it is.

It seems to me there are so many issues just to sell a few products that I would rather not get into them, either that or products have to be increased in price across the board, which would then be unfair for peeps paying via cheque as their still having to pay for their stamp and envelope.

It could go on forever really, but I certainly dont think it's a cheek, that's like saying that you would be willing to pay for their stamp and envelope as well to receive their cheque.

    *snip*
I'm sorry but I don't buy this at all.

If you want profit, put your items up for a realistic price instead of adding a surcharge for using nochex. After all, the seller will have already paid 99p to upload the money to their nochex account. Why should they then have to pay your 99p to download it back to your account?

As for estimating your postal charges - well taht's not the concern of the buyer. You've put on the auction what you think it's going to cost to post it so you've made the commitment there. You should either revise your estimate upwards or weigh your packages yourself before posting. I use simply kitchen scales for weighing anything I am not sure on and then cross checking the weight with the price list on the Royal Mail website.

Your analogy of paying for the buyer's envelope and stamp is flawed I am afraid.

There is no reason why a NOCHEX transaction should incur a surcharge from a seller. I certainly don't do it. The practice is as bad as sellers on eBay selling their items low and adding high postage costs to avoid the FVFs but still get what they wanted for the item.

I didn't say that I was putting the charge on for profit just to reclaim SOME of the charges incurred to myself the same as a person paying via a cheque would have to pay for envelope and a stamp...simple enough to me..

The buyer doesn't incurr a charge at all, only on initial set up I think that's it once the account is opened then away they go...

I have had loads of people pay via nochex with no complaints fastpay is even better cause there's no charge at all, but at least I'm giving the option, it's no odds to me as long as I get payment.

I can see this is a very sensitive subject, but like I say someone somewhere always loses out unless only one type of payment is accepted where everyone pays there postage stamp and envelope to send a cheque or everyone pays 30p or 50p for nochex, you'll never please everyone anyway..its life..

An envelope, stamp and walk past the post box isn't going to cost most people 99p so comparing the charges to the 'cost savings' is a little slanted.

Most of the products I have sold over the last year have cost less than a fiver so 99p in % terms is a horrendous charge and cannot be justified.
I know that the banks charge the same fee for transferring a million as they do for a penny, but if someone is offering a 'free' money transfer service then it should be the weapon of choice.

I am opening a new paypal account just to handle credit card transactions so that if people want to pay then there is a 30p charge. If they want to pay by debit/switch then I have my boring standard account where transactions are free (just keep sending me the adverts! LOL!)

You guess the postage! I admit that when I have a new item (like the vinyl boxed sets) I weighed it in the kitchen and used the postage chart, but still undercharged by nearly two quid. But hey, I have now gone back into all my auctions and revised the postage. I don't expect to make money from P&P but I would like to not lose money, especially on an item which sold for a pound.

All of these money handling solutions are going to be like the 'free' ISPs, all these directory inquiries services. SOmeone has stated that there is x million quid moving around. Why don't we grab a slice of it, taking a small percentage we could cream off thousands of pounds per day. Easy money.

The problems are that a) there may or may not be that much money floating around b) people like the cheap option (ask the farmers about milk production)

There is no 'solution' we must continue the struggle, keep bringing in new buyers, new sellers and hoping that eventually all this stuff filling the cupboard will be gone.

Not at all that's what you call a scamwith me the buyer is paying for a service and they no that with extortionate p&p charges the money is conned out of the buyer cause they dont know what they are paying for gold leaf gift wrap with bow ops: or brown parcel wrap..... anyway whats FVF's
